LASSO THE MOON: An Easy Guide to Basic Moon Magick

Greetings, fellow Seekers! I was blessed to be joined by many beautiful souls in a remote prayer vigil a few days ago. It was an amazing experience, as always, with palpable energy and positive intentions. We were comprised of several faiths, and I added to the effort with a meditation followed by a spell casting.

It was a hastily planned gathering, but I feel my work was successful. The energy around my altar was literally humming!

I usually prefer to time my personal spellwork, law of attraction work, and manifestation/diminishment meditations in order to take advantage of the energies being offered by the positioning of the planets. This can be a challenge! You can wait years for a particular aspect to roll around, or miss an event by seconds!

Often, when the time comes that we are ready to make a change or have opened ourselves to accept more of the things that nourish us, we’re ready NOW! We’re present and accounted for, so let’s GO! Also, we often decide to put off dealing with an issue until it’s approaching critical mass. So again, we need to act NOW!

The quickest and easiest way to harness the energy of our galaxy and put it to work for you is by using the moon! Incorporating the phases of our moon adds an incredibly powerful punch to your magick, manifestations or diminishments, and can influence the outcome of big choices.

Think about it. Our moon is the closest planetary body to us. It’s so close that it is responsible for the cyclical rise and fall of all water on our planet, including our rivers and streams and within our own bodies. Its powerful presence in our human experience spans science, nature, religion, legend, and dreams.

You don’t need to be a scholar of the stars in order to understand the phases of the moon. You can download an app to your phone that gives you the info, but if you’re going to connect with Lady Luna’s energies, I strongly suggest you go outside and look for yourself.

It’s a no-brainer to see if the moon is full, or new. It’s either a full round orb, or it’s invisible! But what about all the stuff in between? Here’s a simple way to see if it’s waxing (growing larger, heading toward fullness,) or waning (getting smaller, heading for newness or dark.)

Notice Where the Perfectly Round Edge Is.

If the lighted part of the moon’s fully round outer edge is on the right, she’s waxing, or moving from new (dark) to full. If the lighted part’s fully rounded edge is on the left, she’s waning, or moving from full to new (dark.)

There are several easy ways to use the moon and her phases to add extra voltage and dimension to meditation, law of attraction work, and spell casting. It’s wise to compose a few extra lines to include during your meditation or ritual that outline how and why you’re incorporating the moon phase. Remember, spell casting is like writing a contract! Be specific, because there is great power in verbalizing your intent.

1) Do metaphysical workings asking for the diminishment or banishment of something at the full moon. As the moon wanes to new, the thing you’re wishing to be free of shrinks as well. This is extra-potent when done on the full moon nearest the summer solstice. You receive the quick-acting relief of the waning moon, and long-term diminishment from the shortening of the days. It’s excellent for goals like weight loss and putting to bed unhealthy habits or mental attitudes.

2) Spell work for gains, material or intangible, are best done at the new moon. This is also true for situations where more information is required, or truths that need to unfold in order to be seen. Again, make clear your intent to use the waxing moon to lend its growth to your desire. As the moon increases, so will your manifestation. Put it into overdrive on the new moon closest to the winter solstice, and take advantage of the steadily growing energy of the increase in daylight.

3) A bright full moon can be used for metaphysical workings designed to find an answer RIGHT NOW. Call upon her to beam her search light on something that requires immediate understanding, or a misdeed or mistake that needs to be uncovered right away.

4) Use the utmost prudence, and do not violate the tenet of “Harm None” when employing this last tip. The dark moon can be used to obscure things. It is not in the scope of Wicca to cover up your lies or deception, and be prepared for the unpleasant consequences when you are discovered to have done so. However, there may be a time when you are being unfairly scrutinized, judged, or harassed. There may be something belonging to you that another person is trying to get, but is not intitled to. And often, we are pursued by busy-bodies who can never seem to mind their own damn business or stop spreading gossip. The dark moon can hide you by distracting your detractors, placing obstacles on their path, or making a path for you that takes you out of their crosshairs.

The full moon on August 18, 2016 is going to be a “light bulb” moment for most of us! Not only does it take place in the philosophical, “we’re all in this together,” sign of Aquarius, it’s also an ALMOST lunar eclipse. (Yes, this ‘near miss’ matters.)

As a sun sign, Aquarius is the not-usually-emotional thinker and philosopher. Aquarians are exceptional at cutting straight to the things that we all have in common, and have zero fear of push-back from espousing a rational but far-out concept. They are campaigners for the underdogs, advocates for the marginalized, and have unshakable faith in the good…better…BEST traits inherent in all of us. They recognize the power in numbers, and are exceptionally good at bringing those numbers together on issues that effect our collective good, no matter our perceived differences. They believe; no, they KNOW that tomorrow has the potential to be better for everyone if we find our common ground and get out of our own way.

Perhaps most notably of all the Aquarian traits, is their fearless attitude toward changes in thought, culture, and behavior. They welcome the revolution of evolution.

When the full moon is in Aquarius, she sheds soft, but insistent light on the things that have been hidden regarding our innate behavior as the flawed, beautiful creatures we are. Instead of highlighting the positive attributes we have as humans, she focuses her penetrating rays on the things we all do, but have no reason to be proud of. The full moon in Aquarius forces us to see how our habits, dogma, misplaced priorities, prejudices, and insecurities contribute to the chaos and hate we cry out for an end to.

In other words, she points the finger you’ve been pointing at others RIGHT BACK AT YOU.

She reminds you that you need to thoroughly walk your talk before you can demand the same behavior from others. She reminds you that the only change you have control over is your own. She asks you if maybe you might be part of the problem. She also asks you to do some soul-searching about whether or not you even have the right to make demands of your brothers and sisters. She asks you to consider that someone else’s path may not be the same as yours. She insists that in order to ask for the change, you have to BE THE CHANGE. You cannot ask from someone else that which you are unwilling to give in return.

Does this make you a bad person? Absolutely not. In order to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our status quo, we all place boundaries, pretexts, and fine print around our lives and our choices. The kicker is, however, by limiting the amount of change you’ll tolerate before you feel your personal boat is being rocked, you’re automatically stifling the change that you’re asking for. The Universe does not deal in “ifs, ands, or buts.” If you want it, you have to ask for it, and get the hell out of the way. That includes your own way and everyone else’s. It begs you to examine what good your boundaries are doing, and whether or not they serve your greater good, and the greater good of the whole.

And what about the near-miss of the lunar eclipse?

It’s significant because the potential obscuring of all or part of the moon’s oracular illumination didn’t happen. It means that we could have missed the real issues YET AGAIN, but she’s decided that we’re ready to wake up and take a look at ourselves, regardless of our discomfort. She has faith that we can handle it, and she KNOWS we have the endless potential for love, optimism, cooperation, and empathy.

She’s thrown open the door to your dark, creepy, stale attic of the self, and she’s handed you a broom, searchlight, and an endless supply of garbage bags. Get cracking, Buttercup.

MAGICKAL MOONSTONE: Definitely Not Made of Green Cheese!

Luminous. Pearly. Iridescent. All these lovely words accurately describe the gorgeous, seemingly mysterious, gem of moonstone.

Since my last post went deep into Cancer territory, I thought it would be helpful to follow up with some information that might prove to be a useful elixir while you heal the wounds uncovered by yesterday’s new moon. (The effects of which may unfold over the next week, so be nice to yourself.) Moonstone is the flavor of the day today, and it’s definitely not green cheese!

A piece of moonstone is practically the last word in gems or minerals that represent the female aspect of duality; it is directly linked to the Goddess. Ruled by water, it resonates with the zodiac signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. You do not need to be born under one of these houses in order to benefit from its properties! Carry it during these astrological aspects, or at any time you feel drawn to the characteristics of water.

Moonstone’s name is no accident, either. It is associated with our moon, and thereby represents the aspects that go with it. Intuition, psychism, fertility, nurturing, emotional and physical healing are all within moonstone’s capabilities.

Moonstone is also a highly protective substance, particularly in regards to emotional manipulation, dishonesty, theft, and deceit. Just as the moon’s rays shed light on secrets that would prefer to stay hidden, moonstone amplifies “woman’s intuition” and can give you advance notice of someone’s less-than-honorable intentions or uncover guilt, especially when coupled with garnet. In addition, I know of several Wiccans who wear it for alertness and safety during travel, and to keep remote tabs on the safety of loved ones.

Moonstone is an emotional equalizer. Just as water always finds equilibrium, moonstone can help promote balance during times of spiritual stress. This is of tremendous value while you grow and change as your wounds heal. A bit of moonstone in your pocket to use as a worry stone, or even better, mounted in silver and worn as a necklace (preferably long enough to lay over your heart,) can keep your feelings in balance so that you do not lose sight of your healing journey.

It promotes spiritual growth, restful sleep, and invites you to have healing, useful dreams. It also strengthens psychic perception, and promotes reflection and contemplation.

A note of caution: Be prepared for the effects of moonstone if you’re an empath or a sensitive, especially for 3 days on either side of a full moon. Those silvery rays of enlightenment may look watery and gentle, but they are powerful enough to wear down the mightiest of fortifications if left uncontrolled. Make sure you actually want to know the truth before you tip headlong into her waters. Her calm tact will not shield you from things you preferred to be unaware of!

As always, my blessings, love, and luck travel with you. Keep in touch on FaceBook or if you’d like a glimpse at your future beyond the scope brought by moonstone, book a Holistic Tarot reading via phone or skype at

NEW MOON IN CANCER: Treating Old Wounds

July 4, 2016 marks a new moon in the astrological sign of Cancer. Introspection and self-care are not optional right now, they are mandatory. Be prepared, it’s going to hurt before it can heal.

Oh, Cancer! Your crusty exterior protects one of the softest, most vulnerable personalities in the zodiac. Emotionally driven, protective of your home, and often unable to put yourself first, you can be one of the most complicated signs to unlock. Drawing you out of your shell is usually an exercise in futility, and those who love you must learn to accept the shell, and ask to be let in instead of banging on the door demanding you come out.

The sign of Cancer is ruled by the moon, and any meditations or spellwork that are coordinated with the moon phases at this time highlight emotional, domestic, fertility, and inner healing issues. The moon’s silvery, penetrating rays cast a glow on the deepest secrets and mysteries of our emotional selves, and empower us to embrace and acknowledge our shadows.

The new (dark) moon in Cancer on July 4 bids us to go into the garden of our emotions at night and wait for our inner eyes to adjust to the darkness. As the moon waxes, and her gentle but insistent light grows, our most troubling, long-buried wounds are uncovered. The addictions, the rejections, the baggage, the fears, the burden of unforgiven mistakes, all come forward in desperate need of your care and attention.

This important period of introspection is uncomfortable, to say the least. No one enjoys revisiting our darkest hours. We spend exhorbitant amounts of time and effort repressing and supressing the things that we did not want to take the time to find answers for, or which seemed to hurt too much to cope with. We then double down on it by using the time that has gone by since we chose to ignore our issue(s) as a further excuse to let it languish. It’s been umpteen years, why bring it up now?

Indeed, why bring it up now?

Because the hardest thing you will ever, ever do is look inside yourself, and it’s a challenge that will reward you with answers, strength, and peace of mind if you choose to accept it. This new moon makes turning inward and meeting your shadows as gentle and natural-feeling as it can be, and combined with the nurturing, maternal aspect of Cancer, you can inspect, assess, and dress your wounds with the utmost care and understanding. You can get to the root of your issues without inflicting further harm in the process.

You wouldn’t think twice about helping someone you love. You’d nurse them back to health, hold them close when they are afraid, and stand by them when they struggle with things only they can fix. And you’d love them unconditionally through it all! Now is the time to show yourself some of that empathy. Now is the perfect time to deal with the issues, no matter how deeply buried, that keep you from stepping up to the completely joyful, unencumbered emotional life you deserve.

As always, take this loving reminder with you: Harm none. When seeking to remove or release someone or something from your life which has hurt you, ask very clearly for a solution that is effective, lasting, and correct for all. This includes mistakes you’ve made. Further negative self-talk will bring you no closer to resolution, so be mindful of the things you say to yourself.

SUMMER SOLSTICE FULL MOON: June 20, 2016 Holds Immense, Mythic Magick

Greetings, fellow Seekers! Get control of your schedule for Monday, June 20, because you do not want to miss the unbelievable benefits of this year’s summer solstice!

For the first time since 1948, we will have a full moon on the solstice. This conjunction means rare, potent magick is in the offing. The full moon and the solstices lend their own brand of tremendous power to spellwork, manifestation/diminishment meditations, and astrological forecasts.

Traditionally, the full moon and the summer solstice are events that celebrate all things that are ripe, abundant, and in full bloom. We express our deepest gratitude on the solstice to the earth for the bounty that is coming forth at this time. Her trees and vines are bursting with fruits and vegetables that nourish our bodies and put our spirits back in touch with the miracles of nature. At the full of the moon, we bask in the mysterious silver rays that light our way to see that which has been hidden, and give thanks for things that have come to maturation in the last 30 days.

The full moon and the summer solstice also hold some of the most powerful banishing magick to be found in the metaphysical world. Diminishment spells and meditations receive supercharged assistance when enacted on the full moon and left to remove the undesired issue as the moon grows smaller. Banishment rituals done on the summer solstice (after giving thanks, of course,) are best used for issues that may take six months or more to lessen or disappear. Long-term weight loss, the closure on a painful divorce, deep addictions, phobias, and illness all top the list of things that benefit from the slow, steady work of the gradual shortening of the days.

When banishing magick is done on this unusual conjunction, expect to see results that knock your socks off!

When we’ve reached our limit on a situation that we want to remove from our future experience, we’re ready NOW! We’re hot and aggravated, or so darn tired, that we need relief, like yesterday! But we all know that the longest-lasting beneficial changes need time to take hold and settle in. Waiting and having faith can test the foundations of the most patient among us, and time is needed for the tangled threads of a complicated situation to sort themselves out. But this full moon solstice gives us fast gratification AND long-term diminishment!

In the combining of these two powerful celestial events, we receive a swift result from the two-week cycle of the moon that takes her from full to void (new,) and the luck, diligence, and endurance that is needed to go the distance from the solstice.

This means that a lifestyle change for health or weight loss yields nearly instant feelings of relief and an ecouraging reading from the scale, and it becomes easier to let go of the long-term habits and thoughtforms that may have helped put your health in jeopardy. The endurance of the power of the solstice phases those things out, and reduces your cravings for unhealthy food so steadily, it seems like no effort at all, and you may find yourself wondering how you lived life without a daily walk or swim!

If you cannot or do nor want to continue in your current career, but don’t have the luxury of walking out, take heart! A banishing spell can open a new door for you within the next few weeks in order to place you somewhere more enjoyable. But don’t expect it to be permanent! It’s first-aid while the long-term action of the solstice hears out your desires, and conspires to get you into a field where your heart and wallet are equally full. **ALERT!** This means your radar must be fully engaged! The next six months will be teeming with coincidence and serendipity, because these shifts are all about chance meetings and being in the right place at the right time. You must submit to the whim of a cup of coffee at that new cafĂ©, the urge to take the long route home, and the desire to horn in (in a friendly way!) on the conversation of strangers. Get off the beaten track of your routines, or you’ll miss your opportunities!

And the bad relationship that just seems to drag on? You know, the one that should have been over ages ago, but it didn’t seem possible to cut the cord cleanly? The ramifications were going to be too messy, dramatic, and painful, so you’re languishing in purgatory. Not anymore! A banishing spell right now for this issue can mean an easier immediate split, and then ever-calmer waters while the assets are divided, the emotions are soothed, and you both move forward with a cleaner slate. This full moon solstice energy may also be the catalyst to a meaningful conversation that puts the whole relationship into perspective for both of you, and even though you’re still splitting up, a respect and understanding may be fostered for what you used to have, and how you each benefited from the things that were good. This aspect in particular is important for exes that must co-parent. **ALERT** You must also be on the look out for coincidence and serendipity. It will yield that new apartment that’s perfect on your single income, that bit of extra work to smooth out some unexpected expenses, and the opportunities for soul-soothing activities that put you back in touch with your inner light.

As always, take this loving reminder with you: Harm none.Banishing rituals can be sticky wickets, because often, we’re seeking to remove people or situations that cause us pain. Do not allow the mirage of victimhood to be an excuse for petitioning the Universe for an end to an issue that includes pain for another person. Ideally, the solution to a painful situation, is one wherein each party can find it easy to walk away. With tension comes more tension, and resolution never comes of ongoing strife. If you are asking for a person to be removed from your life, or a harmful issue of which they are a part, repeat after me:

I ask that this be correct, and for the good of all. This shall be resolved easily, permanently, and with no harm inflicted. It is fixed, and it is so.

Brightest blessings, and I wish you much love and luck while you let go of the things that do not serve your highest good. Blessed Solstice!

Neptune Retrograde: Permission to Dream GRANTED!

Mercury gets all the attention for going retrograde! But get excited, because Neptune’s backing it up until November 19! Neptune “The Planet of Mist” rules Pisces, all liquids (even booze and blood!) and takes 146 years to transit the zodiac. It spends 14 years in each sign, and about 6 months of the year in retrograde, so its effects are wide-spread but more on the subtle side.

Neptune is THE big daddy of inspiration, dreams, intution and natural psychic abilities, spirituality, mercy, and compassion. It urges us to reject limitations and keep striving to create the world in which we’d love to live. Neptune takes the legendary beauty of Venus and multiplies it to the Nth degree with the heaven and earth moving powers of spirituality. It despises coarseness, and prefers to dull the tack that pops the balloon of our dreams by just ignoring some unpleasant realities. It takes its mission of inspiring fantasy very seriously, why spoil it with the harsh light of day?

Neptune in retrograde is GREAT!! It gives us full permission to dream, create, and immerse ourselves in the soul-nourishing topics of paradise, spirituality, metaphysics, and inner growth. It couples those things with a dose of practicality and reality, and in the combining, we are shown how to realistically go about making our dreams real! How amazing is that?!

It makes us take a real look at situations we’ve glossed over (debt, unfulfilling relationships, soul-sucking jobs,) and gives us oceans of inspiration as to how we can solve them creatively, and in ways that appeal to our values and highest self. It also helps us physically apply our empathy and sympathy to another’s misfortune by setting our energies in motion.

So now that you’ve got auspicious conditions to dream and plan, what can you envision and manifest? My guess is ANYTHING! Brightest blessings!
